Funny Sonnet Poems

Shakespeare wrote many funny sonnet poems. The below was not written by anyone as famous as Shakespeare. It was written by our friend Angela, and we think it is great.

Our Life

My love for you is always exuberant,
My heart fills with song whenever you’re near
Even though your nose is protuberant,
And you have become quite big in the rear.

My life is yours to do with as you will,
Your smile is the only payment I seek.
I find your laughter to be a bit shrill,
and your legs are hairy much like a Greek’s.

If you consent to love me forever,
I’ll be your best friend till your dying day.
None of your jokes have ever been clever,
At least you don’t wear an ugly toupee.

Seriously, I do love you sweetie.
Now how about a foot rub peace treaty?

So what do you think? Was the sonnet funny? what was your favorite part?

Personally, I really like the first stanza. I chose the first one because of the words that are used and because of the contrast between the first two and the last two lines.

The beauty of sonnets is that you can simply write one to anyone you like, just by following the rhyming scheme. I prefer funny sonnets. The above sonnet is follows the structure of a 14 line Shakespearean sonnet.

I find that sonnets are that much more enjoyable when they are funny. We all know that Shakespeare had an amazing talent for that.

Have you ever written a sonnet? For me, the process of writing it, is just as fun as reading the final completed version. The beauty of poetry in my opinion is that it can always be modified or changed. By simply replacing a few words, you may create something totally different.

One of my favorite Shakespearean Sonnets, is sonnet #18. Some individuals interpret this as a love poem, others see it as self-glorification. The debate goes on.

May your days be filled with many wonderful funny sonnet poems.
