Embarrass Me

So you’re not a sharp dresser, wearing black socks with sandals.
But neither have you been involved in Tiger Woods-type scandals.
Dressing up might mean a Hawaiian shirt to you,
but never have you neglected your hair to shampoo.

You say things at times that really embarrass me,
like telling my old boyfriends that I laugh like a banshee.
But I know that you never mean anything but the best,
when the outfit I am wearing you protest.

I really wish that we could always get along.
But regardless of our arguments, my love for you is strong.
I wish you a happy father’s day this year and forever more.
Thanks for being a dad that I can say I truly do adore

Let's look at some of the points stated in that poem. The first stanza talks about dressing style or lack of abilities in this area. How does your father dress? He is a horrible dresser like so many father out there? Does your mom have to tell him how to dress or even buy his clothes for him so that he doesn't look like a clown? Don't worry most fathers lack the sense of style.


What about embarrassing you? Does he or did he make an extra effort to embarass you on countless occassions? That's another quality of a typical dad. They will are capable of saying the most inappropriate things at the worst possible time. It's often very random.

Just like the third stanza indiates, arguments are a normal part of your relationship with your dad. It's very normal to disagree on various topics or issues. Everyone has different views and personalities. So when those two things are combined, arguments are often just around the corner.
